The Bottom Lounge -

this will be the Ghost's final show
THE GHOST
The best way to avoid a genre label is to write music that doesn't fit a label. The Ghost convincingly disavow screamo, post-hardcore and culture in general. Steve Albini mixed their last release, and the guru's influence lingers, each nervy guitar note poking a hole in stretched-taut rhythm tracks already stressed from the impact of big beats. Singer/guitarist Brian Moss grimly speaks of disasters, doubt, and patriots in mortuaries. "Erase the labels," he seethes. "Let's keep music dangerous/The movement is dead/We need a resurrection." Here it is.
MT.ST.HELENS
Mt. St. Helens are the closest thing I have heard to a band that sounds like 31knots. They are all about the bass-heavy groove and a killer rhythm that borders on an indie rock / hip hop hybrid. It's a little bit of 31knots, some Fugazi, some Desert Fathers, and some Blood Brothers screaminess to top it off. Life just doesn't get any better, folks. This is pretty, tense, emotional music, with lyrics that will touch anyone who's ever found themselves sitting alone in a field wondering what went wrong.

bad news folks...... [06 Nov 2004|06:15pm]

[ mood | feeling fine. ]

hey so i am sorry to be a bad news bear, but the ghost is no longer a band. i know....sad! they are all doing well. paul lask is doing a song with neil from the lawrence arms for the grey flight comp (yet to come up with a band name.) any ideas? it will be out sometime this spring. obviously brian is doing his solo thing. omar and randy are bike messangers dodging traffic.

presently paul lask is sitting on my guest futon wearing an exceptionally ugly oversized freefall convention parachuting tank top. while randy is fixing my bike and polishing his new track bike. omar is going to impress a new lady friend. while brian is probably working. like i said they are all doing well.

so sorry to be a downer, just thought you all should know.

take care.

hey this is from a livejournal... do pass the word around..

hey everybody. matt from mbd here. i have some bad news. the band engine down had their van and trailer stolen in houston the other night. many of you will recall that we had our stuff stolen in october and how much that sucked. well, these guys have it much worse than we did. no wheels, no gear, no merch, no clean clothes, no nothing. as you can imagine, this is a pretty shitty way to start a tour. engine down is a swell group of guys and they could sure use our help. if people in the texas area could keep their eyes open around pawn shops and the like, that would be a big help. for everyone else, keeping an eye on e-bay would be awesome. right now there is no official list of what is missing gear-wise, but if/when one becomes available, i'll post it here. the van is a blue ford club wagon with virginia plates. that's all i have at the moment. thank you all. more info as it becomes available...

this is the last time I am telling you guys about this stuff... after this... you are free to use it... and I am not endorsing it on lj anymore.... what is that you as well....

I have changed the navigation of www.shelf2player.com to make it easier to look at the month you are wanting to see.. or if you want to see the whole damn list... also the review section as a simple for you just fill out and you are now a famous record reviewer... and then there is some really stupid pointless carttoons... oh right the whole .. link me I'll link you game... so feel free to play.....

what is shelf to player... just a quick review... a place to find out when cds are coming out... there are alot of them... and the site gets updated the last tuesday of the month (offically)... I might sneak in an update here and there... but yeah... I myself have already found many uses.... all I ask in return is to keep me up to date if you have a band.... and tell your friends... peace... and thanx for taking the time to read this...

enjoy music,
Jimbob love

hey guys,

I hope I'm not getting on your nerves, but I got alot of good responces about shelf2player.com ... so I wanted to let everyone know it is alot easier to look up the months... or go back up top to check out the reviews or links....

Also the review form is working and it is great... so feel free to review your new favorite cd... and tell friends you did it and to check it out... and also... keep your eyes out for things that might be missing.. or if your friend's band has a cd coming out...

The Format will change from time time, but what you see is what you will get... straight forward info..

Enjoy Music,
Jimbob Love

Yo People,

shelf to player is all up and working... the layout is very very very basic... but it is straight info... the format might change in the near future, but for the most part I have found all I can... so now it is up to people helping me out... and bands wanting to get out more than just their little circle... so use this site... tell others... do what you want with the info... sit and wait... download... whatever you do... but just enjoy and help it... :)...

Your Friend,
Jimbob Love

I also need to start posting some cds coming... so if you have a band... or know of a cd coming out... send me the info by replying to this post... just put the date, band, cd title, record label.....

I have created something that could be a huge help for local bands and bands that aren't getting seen enough... it is called Local Bloom... place where friends of bands, bands or band members themselves, or big fans of a band can post about the band and keep people updated on touring, mp3's, and other info that is needed to get a band out there and heard... now it is up to you to tell all...use this as an outlet to hear new music or let others know... start joining now.. and tell others about it... go for it!!!!

Yeah that sucked.

Some news from the site:

We've finished up writing all the material for our new record which is going to weigh in with nine songs in about forty minutes. As you can tell by the length of the album in contrast to track numbers we've been writing some long epic rock monstrositys. Anyhow, here is what's going on beyond the basics...
1. Beginning July 6th we start recording our second full length album here in Chicago at Engine Studios with Brian Deck. The album will be released late fall or early winter on Some Records.
2. Throughout July we'll be laying low playing regional and local shows only. June 28th we'll be reppin' at Turners Hall in Elgin with The Honor System, Collosal and Mount Saint Helens.
3. Come August were planning on making a one and a half week run out to the East Coast.
4. In early September we will be embarking on a three week West Coast and Canadian tour with our brothers from the North, Self Made Man.
5. Sometime late in the year we will be recording a split disc with our partners in crime and cheep beer, Mount Saint Helens. The cd tentatively will released mid-winter 04' on Thick Records.
6. Randy has got some steamy uncensored photos from Europe, Canada and elsewhere that will be uploaded to the website shortly. Our friend Chris also turned in some photos from the Thick Oil release show at the Metro which will be posted shortly as well.
7. Sometime soon we will take over the world, over throw all existing evil and all of your wishes will be granted.

Shows listed thus far:
06.28.03 Elgin, IL @ Turners Hall
w/ The Honor System, Collosal, The Ghost, Mount Saint Helens, Midwest Blue

08.05.03 Chicago,IL @ Fireside Bowl
w/ The Ghost, The Reputation, Del Cielo

Enjoy.
